Why and to What Extent Should Parents Control their Children’s TV Watching?

As we all know, television sets have become standard pieces of equipment in most homes, and watching television has become a standard activity for most families. Children in our culture grow up watching television in the morning, in the afternoon, and often in the evening as well. Although there are many excellent programs for children, in fact, television may be a bad influence on children for three main reasons.

First of all, some programs are not good for children to see. For example, there are many police stories on television. People are killed with guns, knives, and even cars. Some children might think that these things could happen to them at any time. Therefore, they can become frightened. in addition, some youngsters might begin to think that violence is a normal part of life because they see it so often on television. They may begin to act out the violence they see and hurt themselves or their playmates.
Second, television can affect children's reading ability. Reading requires skills and brain processes that watching television does not. If children watch television too many hours each day, they don't practice the skills they need to learn how to read.
Finally, television may affect children's schoolwork in other ways. if they spend too much time watching television, they may get behind in their homework. Also, if they stay up to watch a late movie, they may fall asleep in class the next day. Consequently, they will not learn their lessons, and they could even fail in school.
In conclusion, if children watch too much television or watch the wrong programs, their personalities can be harmed. Furthermore, their progress in school can be affected. Therefore, parents should know what programs their children are watching. They should also turn off the television so that their children will study.

Space Makes Change!!!

Architects, interior designers, and engineers believe that the way things are arranged in space makes a difference in how people function. These professionals make their living helping people to be happier and to function more efficiently through better use of the physical environment. schools need to apply their insights, to education for similar payoffs: increased satisfaction and productivity. Teachers also can make the most advantageous use of classroom and school space. There are two equally important but different ways of looking at teacher's use of space. One is to look at the way arrangements of furniture, materials, and space support the kind of instruction going on, and other is the goals of the lesson and the learning environment it needs.
Since lesson goals and lesson forms change...Space arrangements can be expected to change also.

Skillful Teachers are Made...Not Born

When I think about the teachers that I've known who are really good at what they do, it seems to me that they, first of all, have a tremendous understanding of the content of what it is they're teaching and they never lose that expertise. So knowledge about the subject matter and really feeling comfortable with that is very important. But, at the same time, they take that subject matter knowledge and they link it to a sense of how kids learn -- the variety of ways that they can engage children in learning and have them really achieve the full extent of their capabilities. And then I would say that today's really skilled teachers also have a whole new set of resources that evolve around their use of technology.

Childhood Obesity

Obesity is a serious medical condition that we are suffering from. . It occurs when a child is well above the normal weight for his or her age and height. A healthy sense of self-esteem and a good self-image can go a long way toward helping students overcome peer pressure, academic stress and other factors that contribute to depression or inhibit social development. Childhood obesity leads to poor self-esteem and depression, so we should be aware of the consequences of this problem and help our students who are overweight to regain their confidence and to rebuild a new image of their future..

Why Healthy Food?

Fast food is cheap, convenient, filling, and to many of us it tastes good. Unfortunately, eating just one fast food meal can pack enough calories, sodium, and fat for an entire day or more. Eating fast food on a regular basis can lead to a host of different health problems. Still, the quick-and-cheap temptation can often be hard to resist.  As an informed customer, you can make healthier choices and still enjoy the price and convenience of fast food restaurants. All of this is a fact, but do you ever think of the effects of this food on your students. It can decrease concentration levels, cause obesity, make the brain thin slower, early heart attacks, and earns excess energy without any real nutritional value. I'm not saying that we should forbid students from eating fast food, but we should guide them and help them choose healthy food, explaining why they are choosing it.

A Sound Mind in a Sound Body

It would be hard to underestimate the role of sports and exercise in our life and health, especially in relation to the youth. Sport is far than just an engaging and healthy hobby. I think that active participation in sports has a positive influence on a teenager's social life, self esteem and even academic performance. A child may mug up the history textbook, may be for the last bell of exams but if it gets a bit of interactive touch, then the same student may have such a memorization and understanding, then he will not only just forget it ever in his life but also implement it in his life with an equal degree of effectiveness. “Health is Wealth” , and we can have a sound mind only in a sound body, so we have to integrate sports in education in order to have greatest achievements.

Lifelong Learners

Although it has it's ups and downs, teaching fulfills and makes the teacher happy when they are helping youngsters to leave school with decent grades and knowing that they have a future. It is really interesting to share learning and knowledge with students who want to learn. Teachers should create lifelong learners who are motivated to come to school and becoming a part of an energizing community. Teachers should also create a standard-based classroom that meets accountability requirements and also provide a learning environment where both teachers and students can thrive...

Reaching Your Students

One of the most important aspects of teaching is classroom management. You can't successfully teach your students if you are not in control. Many teachers have lost their jobs due to poor classroom management. One of the reasons could be your teaching style,if you are not reaching every one of your students, they can become bored, disinterested and restless. Every student has his own learning style and an area where they excel. If you are reaching these students by using a variety of methods, they are motivated and less likely to cause trouble.

Teacher's Management Styles

During college years, I have attended many English classes and observed many teachers’ styles of teaching. One thing that I have noticed is that there are different ranges in the general behavior of students.  In some classrooms the students are well mannered, cheerful, and hardworking while others are rude, gloomy, and lazy. There I started thinking what causes this difference? And I concluded that a main cause is the positive or negative interaction between the teacher and her students...

Some teachers typically interact with students in negative ways: criticizing a student's poor posture, pointing out mistakes, making sarcastic remarks about inappropriate social behavior, and so on, those teachers don’t teach students how to learn from their mistakes. Other teachers typically interact with students in positive ways: complimenting a student's good posture, pointing out successes, making flattering remarks about appropriate social behavior, smiling to show approval, and so on. These teachers take the view that “Success is the best teacher.”

I have found that these two classroom “management styles” consistently correlate with differences in student behavior.

Early Brides!!!End of Education

Girls early marriage often means the end of their education. It’s closely linked to girls dropping out of school, denying their right to the education they need for their personal development, their preparation for adulthood, and their ability to contribute to their family and community.
Out of school and in marriage, child brides are denied the ability to learn the skills that could help them earn an income and lift them and their children out of poverty. Married girls who would like to continue schooling may be both practically and legally excluded from doing so.

Many girls aren't in education because of the traditional role girls are expected to play in the household, or simply because parents don’t see the value of education for their daughters.
I think that education is the most powerful tool to enable girls to avoid early marriage and fulfill their potentials; it helps them to develop skills, knowledge and becoming empowered girls to claim their rights.
If girls are able to stay in school and avoid early marriage, the benefits are widely felt, not only in her own life but also in the whole society.

dreaming after all... is a form of planning

My choice to become a teacher was not made lightly. I was hesitant at the beginning where my passion job was being a Dietitian, but many circumstances pushed me to register English literature at the Lebanese university.
Now am contented of what am doing, i started convincing my self that English will give me many chances of achieving my other goals  and to become an effective member in the society and as a family member.
The idea that a teacher has not only the ability of changing the world but also improving it, was the most important factor of leading me to fall in love with teaching , now i think that a teacher is not only a person who delivers knowledge, he/she is a person who sets the tone of the classroom, builds a warm environment, mentors and nurtures students, become role models, and listens and looks for signs of troubles.
"Being happy in your job, is your key of success", that's what i truly believe, and that's what i already dreamed and planned to.
