Even that they suffer Syrian war, and after three years of misery
they have challenged all the circumstances and fight for completing their
education. Syrian students are now distributed in schools across Lebanon,
attending special "second shifts' in the afternoons.
Some students have been out of school since the beginning of the
conflict, many of them have dropped out of school to support their families by
working odd jobs. For those families who are able to send their children to
school, the registration process, costs of books and supplies, as well as
transportation to and from school were paid by UNICEF.
After graduation, i had the chance of teaching Syrian students
aiming to adapt them to the teaching curriculum in Lebanese school, with focus
on foreign languages.
I started teaching grade five, they were students who are between
11-13 years, some of them were not entered to school before and others didn't
learn English language at all. I felt that i will find difficulty in teaching
them and giving them the right messages.
In my first week i find difficulty in translating, applying
cooperative learning activities, where they were not used to do it, and delivering
ideas but after the students know the essential procedures, discipline, and
know the base English words I felt that my students are developing not only in
English language but their behaviors also shows improvements.
After three months, my students start to read fluently and even
write short paragraphs successfully… I'm so proud of them where they are trying
to achieve and work hard even that their circumstances are not helping them.
It was a beautiful experience. I feel that I really touch their
hearts and enrich their minds, they are dreaming to become effective members in
their country and I'm sure they will be.
In fact, i teach those students English language and i also give them many moral lessons, but they also teach me that even that we face many difficulties in our lives we have to be patient, to dream that everything will become better and that our pain will disappear after reaching success.
After all, it's true that teachers have a big influence on their
students, but students also can touch teacher's hearts and give those lessons
and memories for life.

very inspiring and touching story you have shared ..I'am sure you are proud and they in turn are proud to have an innocent emotional caring teacher as you dear train a child in the way he should go and when he is old he will not depart on i..each of us faces a conflict but the most important thing to do is to be patient try to overcome conflicts and to know that faith is what we need after all
